Former WWE wrestler CM Punk is set to make his debut in the UFC sometime this year but before that he will be making his debut in the comic book world with Thor Annual #1 which is set to hit stores February .
Punk , real name Phil Brooks , will be taking on the writing duties for the new Thor title while artist Rob Guillory , known for his work on “Chew” will be taking up the penciling duties. This will also be Guillory’s debut for Marvel. The two will team together to tell stories of a side of Thor many don’t see very often.
“The idea was, let’s do a story about young Thor as kind of a brash, bratty teenager who’s like, ‘I’m totally worthy of this hammer. My dad’s full of shit. I don’t know why I’m not ‘worthy’ of the hammer. Look at all this cool stuff I did. And it’s more or less like a drinking story. He’s gonna be sitting around with a few choice characters from the Marvel Universe, and they’re all gonna be drinking, and Thor’s gonna basically be complaining about essentially why his dad won’t give him the keys to the car.”
Marvels first “Thor” film showed a glimpse of the not-so-humble beginnings of Thor . In the comics he was rather brash and was eventually banished to earth by his father Odin to learn some humility. Punk plans to expand upon that side of the character with stories of the time before he was worthy to wield his magical weapon known as Mjolnir and be the God of Thunder we all know him to be today. “He’s going to Midgard and slaying dragons and hanging out with Vikings and drinking all their mead and sleeping with all their women,” Punk explains. He’s kind of taking the whole ‘I’m the thunder god’ responsibility pretty lightly.”
Thor Annual #1 is set to hit stores February 25th.
